  On pets such as dogs, cats and rabbits

  New export inspection application deadline effective 1st January 2027 NEWアイコン
  Following the revision of the Enforcement Regulation of the Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control, export inspection for dogs and rabbits must be applied at least 14 days before export from 1 January 2027. As inspection appointments for pets, namely dogs, cats and rabbits are subject to availability, applicants are encouraged to apply for their inspection well in advance.

  Following the revision of the Enforcement Regulations of the Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control, rabbits imported as cargo must be notified to the Animal Quarantine Service at least 40 days before import from 1 January 2027. Importers of rabbits as accompanied baggage are also encouraged to submit their notification as early as possible, as quarantine arrangements are subject to facility availability.

  Booking of export inspection is tight at Haneda airport 
  Booking of dogs and cats' export inspection is tight at Haneda airport.
It is recommended to apply for export inspection and make a reservation well ahead of the desired date; and if it is fully booked, to check availability of other animal quarantine office.

  Delayed responses to import/export inquiries at Narita/Haneda/Kansai airports 
  Now, the Animal Quarantine Service at Narita, Haneda and Kansai airports have been receiving a lot of inquiries from passengers who import/export their dogs and cats. Therefore, It takes 7-10days to reply.
  We're sorry for the inconvenience, but we ask these passengers to check our official website in advance regarding the general requirements, procedures, documents and so on.

  Records of arrest, indictment and punishments against illegal imports/exports 
  If you import/export meat or animal products illegally, the products are seized and you can also be arrested. Violators have been punished with fine and/or imprisonment.
